Poole Hill Brewery is the home of Bournemouth's Southbourne Ales with a Fully Licenced bar serving local and international brands as well as teas and coffees. They host quality lime music in their taproom performed by local musicians with genres including blues, rock and roll, and folk. Picking up the pace on a weekend with popular music.

The building was built in 1880 was originally Bayley and Sons Iron Mongers, with the upper stories being the School of Art, Science and Technology; later the family also operated the towns electrophone service from the property’s basement. Having decided to open a brewery in Bournemouth finding suitable premises was quite difficult but when Jennifer Tingay saw 41-43 Poole Hill she knew it was the right place. Vacant for 20 years this Rolls Royce car showroom lacked any shop frontage and needed a complete renovation as Jennifer former QA manager for Ringwood Brewery, an ex-pub landlady with Adnams and off-licence manager decided in 2013 she was going to open a brewery of her own.

Designing the Southbourne Ales brand whilst cuckoo brewing Jennifer won a silver medal at the International Brewing Awards in 2015, giving her the gravitas to crowdfund raising £280k to invest in renovating a listed building in Bournemouth Triangle and install a twenty barrel brewery, taproom, visitors centre and cinema.

Together the team have built a Victorian-style timber shopfront from scratch, internal walls, laid vinyl, plastered, installed drainage and plumbed in toilets as well as installing the 20-barrel brewery plant, transforming this neglected property into a beer lovers nirvana.

Their beer cellar has large double-glazed doors giving customers a rare chance to see how the cellar is kept. Great ales leave many excellent breweries but without a well-kept cellar are unlikely to keep their taste.

This whole project has been financed through crowdfunding with over 125 local and national investors. Shareholders take part in several aspects of the company including marketing, research and the taste panel run to ensure that beers are consistently exceptional and to assist in the development of new product ranges.
